Artist of the Month - Lexy Parks
Canadian based Lexy Parks is probably the Queen of self portraits in our community. The combination of her body with the surreal landscapes in her home country, creates something unique in a very artistic way. Lexy is even making her famous dresses all by her own. She is however also an amazing Boudoir and Wedding photographer and it's time for us to get to know her a little better.
How old are you and where are you from?
I am 27 years old, residing in Big White, BC Canada but originally from cottage country in Ontario, Canada.
Tell us a little bit about your life in the moment?
I keep myself busy with art and the outdoors. I’m mainly a boudoir photographer, but also specialize in weddings, maternity, and environmental portraiture. I also love creating costumes and photography props, drawing, cooking, modelling, and really anything else that requires a creative flair.
As for the outdoors, I’m a snowboarder, rock climber, hiker, backpacker, scuba diver, and just generally an adventure seeking nature enthusiast. If I’m doing none of the above, I’m at home on the couch with my cat in front of the fire.
How did you end up being a photographer?
I learned film in high school, and after a few years had slowly fazed it out for drawing. I began modelling in university, and it rekindled my interest in photography. I was given a DSLR as a wedding gift by my step father, who sadly passed away a week later.
Almost a year later, I picked up my camera and started to shoot. That was nearly 3 years ago and it’s been an amazing journey ever since.
Where do you see yourself in 20 years?
In 20 years I hope to be living in a tiny home on an amazing piece of land shooting what I love.
What gear are you currently using?
I shoot with a Canon 6D and currently use 17-40mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm for lenses.
What advice could you give out to a new starting photographer?
Community over competition goes a long way!
Did the LLF community changed the way you see or shoot boudoir/weddings etc?
LLF has helped me develop my editing style and strengthen my voice. I am thankful to have such a supportive tribe!
What plans do you have for this year?
This year I hope to learn more about the business side of things while continuing my creative growth. New locations, new adventures and new friends are all on my horizon.
