How old are you and where do you live?
I turned 24 this month! I currently live in Yakima, WA. I grew up in Valdosta, Georgia, though. And most of the time I am missing Alaska.
How did you start with photogrpahy?
I've always been artistic and I also have always had an obsession with documenting things. Growing up I would photograph my horses (and yes, I would chase them into a run so I could get that "epic" running shot) and I have so many albums of them from the photos I took.
When I moved to Alaska I photographed my then-boyfriend for his music a lot--and the love of conceptual and artistic photography really took hold. Then, a few years later after moving to Washington, my husband bought me a camera because he knew I had wanted one since before we were married. I was finally able to start practicing more seriously (before I had borrowed a friend's DSLR) and even though I was in a completely new place, I began asking people to let me shoot them and things just grew from there.
What is your current gear?
5d mk iii, Sigma Art 50mm 1.4, 35mm 1.4 L, 70-200mm 2.8 (barely use the 70-200)
What are your plans for the future?
For photography, I'm not exactly sure other than I do want to keep growing my business to the point of it being sustainable with fewer clients so I can spend more time with my family. As a family, we also don't know where we want to live....so in a few years who knows where we will be. Also, as cliche as it sounds, I really hope wherever it is it's in the country surrounded by trees and horses, always horses.
Which artists are your biggest inspiration?
Photography wise, my biggest inspirations are Nirav Patel and the Kitcheners. Such amazing use of available light and capturing the essence of things.
All art inspires me in different ways, and looking to other things outside of photography like paintings, movies, music, etc. is really helpful to me.
