SHOW YOUR GEAR - Jonathan Udot

Who are you? Introduce yourself and tell us what kind of photography you are into!

My name is Jonathan Udot. I will be 35 y.o. in next May. I live in Nancy (France) with my wife Laura and my son Louis who’s 3 y.o. I share my professional life between 2 jobs that I like so hugely. First I am nurse in a hospital in ICU and I take care of patients between life and death and their families every day. Then, for 5 years now, I am a wedding photographer in France and worldwide. I’m also happy to take care about couples and their families but in better moments.

Which Camera(s) do you use?

I work with 2 Nikon full frame bodies: one Nikon D4 and one Nikon D700.

What are your lenses? What do you like about them?

I only work with prime lenses with a f/1.4 aperture. I own a Nikkor 24mm f1.4G, a Nikkor 35mm f1.4G, a Nikkor 50mm f1.4G and a Nikkor 85mm f1.4G lens.

Which is your favorite lens and why?

It’s a very hard question. I think that Nikkor 35mm f1.4G is my favorite lens. If I had to just keep one lens. It would be this one. I already did some stories only with this one.

What do you use for carrying your Equipment? Bags, Straps tell us everything!

For travel, I use a Rolling Case Lowepro® Pro Roller X200 AW which is Airline Carry-On compatible and very well protected.
For wedding days, I have a bag Paul Marius® LeReporter for all my gear and a HoldFast MoneyMaker in Leather to carry my two cameras.

What ́s your favorite “everyday” Camera?

For everyday, I’m looking for a camera which is small but good. I tried Fuji X100 but I didn’t like the lens very much. I just bought a Fujifilm XT1 with a fix lens Fujinon XF 18mm f/2. I hesitated with a full frame hybride like Sony A7(II) but I wanted to try the XT1. For the moment, I find it good. Not as good as my Nikon DSLR, but good.

What are your Accessories? Tripod(s), Flash, Filter etc.?

I don’t use any accessories, except a small flash for parties (Nikon SB600).

Which Computer System do you use? Mac or PC? Why?

I only use Apple. A MacBook Pro 13” and an iMac 27”. First the reason was only estheticism at the beginning and finally I found the whole system a lot easier to use than Windows.

Where do you edit? On your Desktop? On your couch while drinking beer? On the road?

I edit my stories everywhere. The more often, I do it in my room, on my desktop. But I also edit on my portable when I am in travel, or sometimes in our living room while drinking a glass of wine.

Which editing software do you use? Lightroom, PS, Capture One? Anything else?

99 percent of the time i use Lightroom and 1 percent is Photoshop. It’ s a lot more easy to use LR for full stories. If i would edit 10 pictures for a story, I would probably always use PS, but for a wedding day, I shot between 1000 and 5000 pictures.

Tablet or mouse for editing?

Just Apple® Magic Mouse.

Favorite Music while editing?

Here is one of my favorite playlists :
https://open.spotify.com/user/ 1111313458/playlist/7y9HsmGF0zRH1FNXYgeHlI

What is on your whishlist?

I would like to buy a Leica one day as a everyday camera. For weddings I would like to buy a 58mm 1.4 Nikon.

Follow Jonathan!
