The idea for this self portrait was sparked by a feeling. I just felt I needed to go and create; to illustrate how I see myself.
I am the very proud mother of a gorgeous little boy who recently turned one. When you’re caring for a baby, now a toddler, you don’t get much time to spend caring for or nurturing yourself. I had a desire to get in touch with the person I was before I became a mother.
Working on this series has allowed me to spend some time to get re-aquainted with parts of myself I had kept locked in the closet. It’s a symbol of re-emergence, stepping back into my old skin and allowing myself to feel comfortable in my new skin. It has been cathartic personally but also creatively. I can now see that it is possible for the old me & the new me to exist on the same plane. There is no old or new me. I am infinitely, just me.
