10 Questions: Zalmy Berkowitz

Zalmy Berkowitz's artistic vision describes rhythm and movement amongst the chaos of life’s candid moments. His film work makes you fall in love with analog all over again.

Meet Bob Sala. You might have come across his work - cinematic 60s-70s ambient stills that remind you of your mother’s childhood (or for some, your own). His (portrait) images go beyond making a fashion statement on a particular era; they tell a story of society and culture.

Before and After #1: Ashley Crawford

We are happy to present our first and weekly "Before and After". Our first artist is Ashley Crawford with her amazing double exposure of this lovely couple ! But let Ashley introduce herself first.

I’m a full-time mom to my little Gemma, wife to my husband Nick and photographer of all things lovely. Portrait photography is very personal to me, I think there is something so special and specific about the way we react with each other. I want you to remember that one thing your little one did, that one time in your life where it was just the two of you, or that one time it became three. Or four or five or ten. Or maybe you got a dog. Maybe she lost her first tooth. Maybe you’re going to ask her to spend forever with you. Whatever your story is, I’d love to help you tell it.
This image is of my best friend and his beautiful bride. They surprised me with this awesome view at their reception and I wanted to do the best that I could with it. I immediately saw this as a double exposure with the city lights bokeh, which I did afterward in Photoshop
Before

Before

I began by using the Provia 400X +1 over + preset from VSCO pack 06 in Lightroom and from there upped exposure, added sharpening and clarity as well as saturation. I took it into Photoshop, overlayed the previous Omaha bokeh lights photo over it, and made the last minute decision to edit out the railing
After

After

I generally try not to change much of the scene in a photo but I felt this change would make a pretty dramatic difference.
I’m pleased with the result and so are my clients
